Will ‘Goodnight Mommy 2’ be released? What is known regarding a sequel is as follows

Prime Video has just released its adaptation of the Austrian horror film “Goodnight Mommy,” which was released in 2014, and it is now accessible to stream on Prime Video. If you saw and liked the movie, you might be interested in the next instalment in the series.

But do you think there will be a sequel to Goodnight Mommy? Or do you think it’s highly unlikely that there will be a sequel film? This is what we are aware of:

What does the song “Goodnight Mommy” mean?

The plot of the movie centres on Elias and Lukas, who are identical twin brothers and pay a visit to their famous mother at her home in the countryside. Upon arriving, they observe that she has a distinguishing trait about her. Aside from the fact that she is wearing a surgical mask over her face, she is also aloof and icy, and she does not exhibit any of the warm maternal affection that she exhibited in the past.

Because the boys are afraid of what she may do to them and believe that she is not actually their mother, they bind her to her bed and keep her there.

Is she the mother of those kids? We won’t tell you the answer to that question here, but if you’re interested in learning more about this movie, check out our review and the articles in which we explain the ending.

Will there be a Goodnight Mommy 2?

At the time of this writing, there have been no announcements made for a sequel.

This is hardly the kind of movie that cries out for a follow-up, therefore the likelihood of there being another instalment is quite remote. Since the original film from Austria did not have a sequel, there is no basis for us to believe that the remake will also have a sequel.

Obviously, if the first movie is successful, the people in charge of making decisions at Prime Video will take into consideration the possibilities. There have been unexpected sequels to numerous movies that didn’t really need a follow-up, such as Donnie Darko and Wall Street, so despite the fact that the idea of a ‘part 2’ seems rather unlikely, there is still a possibility that there will be a sequel.

What could the Goodnight Mommy2 be about?

WARNING: SPOILER AHEAD!

If there were a sequel, it is likely that it would continue the story of Elias.

At the conclusion of the first film, it is made abundantly evident that the loss of his identical twin brother has had an effect on his mental state. The fatal consequences of this are brought about when he lashes out at a lady who may or may not be his mother.

Another film that focused on a character whose mental state was altered by the loss of someone close to him was Psycho, and that film spawned a number of sequels. Is it possible that Elias will become the next Norman Bates? We wouldn’t be terribly surprised if they brought Elias back as an older figure with a mental state that has deteriorated even worse, given Hollywood’s propensity to generate unneeded sequels, even though it’s unlikely that they will do so.

When may the Goodnight Mommy 2 be made available?

It is possible that a sequel will be released during the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024, although we do not anticipate seeing it on any release calendar. As a result, you shouldn’t put too much stock in the outcome of this one.

However, if a sequel is revealed to be in the works, we intend to keep this page current with any new details that emerge.

Goodnigh Mommy Plot

A woman (Susanne Wuest) who used to be a member of a choir that was famous on local television returns home after undergoing cosmetic facial surgery to her contemporary, isolated lakeside house and to her nine-year-old identical twin sons, Elias and Lukas (Elias Schwarz and Lukas Schwarz), who entered the house after playing outside in a cornfield and the nearby lake. Both of the boys are named Elias and Lukas Schwarz. Her entire head is wrapped in bandages, and the only parts of it that are visible are her eyes and mouth. The twins are thrown into a loop when they see their mother for the first time because of how she looks, and they are even more perplexed when they see how she acts. She completely disregards Lukas and appears to only acknowledge Elias when they are conversing or when she is preparing food for them. Even though it is the middle of summer, the mother instructs the twins to keep the blinds closed during the day (as her doctor advised her to do so in order to avoid sunlight). In addition, she forbids any visitors or animals from entering the house, enforces a strict rule of silence inside the house (as she is required to rest after the surgery), and only lets them play outside in the garden. When Elias is being naughty or disobedient, the mother likewise behaves in a nasty manner and lashes out at him both physically and verbally. The boys remark that this is something that their mother would never do, so it’s funny to hear them say it.

The twins start to get the idea that their mother might not be the same person under all of the bandages that she is wearing. When they locate an old image in the photo album that shows the mother with another unidentified lady who is wearing same clothes and shares comparable physical attributes, these suspicions are validated. The picture depicts the mother with the other woman (it is revealed by the woman that the other woman in the photo is her friend who dresses in the same clothes as her). The twins run away from their home because they have reason to believe that the woman who has taken up residence in it is a fraud. They make their way to a church in a nearby town in the hopes of receiving assistance from the minister there. The priest gives them a ride home and accepts the woman’s explanation that she is the children’s mother, in addition to the explanations that she and her husband got divorced and that there was a terrible accident.

The young men bind the woman to the bed with bandages and tape and demand that she reveal the location of their true mother before they will release their hold on her. The woman is adamant that she is their mother, so the twins decide to burn their mother’s face with a magnifying glass in order to force her to disclose the location of their biological mother. After that, they use tape to cover her mouth completely.

The American Red Cross has sent two of its staffers to collect the donations. They initially wait for the return of the mother, but in the end they decide to leave the house after Elias gives them a big sum of cash that he has stealthily taken from his mother’s purse. In the meantime, the woman manages to free herself from the sticky tape that was wrapping around her mouth and begins to shout for assistance; nevertheless, it is too late for her to draw the notice of the staff working for the Red Cross. After sealing her lips with super glue, the twins discover too late that she is unable to consume anything. The identical twins used a pair of very small scissors to slice open her mouth while they were cutting her lips apart.

The woman continues to be bound and confined, and as a result, she wets the bed. She was able to overpower the boys and go away when the twins allowed her to break free from her chains so that she could change the bedding. The twins, on the other hand, have sprung a trap that causes her to trip and fall, knocking her out and rendering her unconscious. The woman awakes immobilised on the carpet of the living room. Elias threatens to burn down the house in order to coerce her into confessing the truth to him and his siblings about their mother. The woman is adamant in her claim that she is the biological mother of the twins.

Elias is then informed by the woman that Lukas passed away in a swimming accident, which indicates that Lukas has been nothing more than a hallucination brought on by dissociative identity disorder. Additionally, Elias is suffering from Capgras delusion and is unable to acknowledge the passing of his other half. She breaks down in tears as she tells Elias that the death of Lukas was not his fault, and she begs her son to let her free so that they can both move on with their lives after the tragedy. Elias issues a challenge to her, asking her what Lukas is up to, in the hopes that she will confirm that she is in fact their mother. She is unable to provide a response to the inquiry since she is unable to witness Elias’s hallucination of Lukas threatening to set fire to a curtain. Elias, who was under the impression that his biological mother was able to see Lukas, started a fire while fantasising that his brother was helping him start it. The woman screams out in anguish as she burns to death in the aftermath of the fire before the firefighters arrive.

The woman, who is now unharmed and is seen wearing a yellow dress that was previously seen in a happy family portrait, exits the house and wanders into the woods as firefighters work to extinguish the fire. In the final shot of the movie, Elias and Lukas can be seen wandering through a cornfield before emerging to be with their mother. All three of them are laughing and hugging one another as they sing Lukas’s favourite song.
