A guy has been detained as the main suspect in the serial killings of at least two of the four Muslim males in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
A 51-year-old Sunni Muslim named Muhammad Syed is thought to have resided in southeast Albuquerque. According to reports, the alleged serial killer left Afghanistan.
According to the New York Times, Syed is thought to have started attacking Muslim males out of hatred when his Sunni daughter wed a Shiite Muslim. However, the victim’s brother rejected the theory, asserting that their family was Sunni and not Shiite. According to Albuquerque police, Syed’s automobile was used to identify him. Police claimed in a statement that as they got ready to search Syed’s house on Monday, “Syed drove away from the residence in the Volkswagen Jetta that detectives think was utilized in at least one of the murders.”

Syed was detained by detectives, who also searched his house and car. Additional information they uncovered further connected Syed to the deaths. Detectives uncovered information that suggests the shooter had some acquaintance with the victims and that there may have been an interpersonal issue that precipitated the shootings.”

Syed was twice accused of domestic abuse, according to court documents obtained by The Daily Mail, but the accusations were later withdrawn. In May 2018, he was detained and accused of “battery (household member).” However, after he entered a not guilty plea, the charges were withdrawn in August of that same year. In December 2018, Syed was once more accused with aggravated violence; however, the case was later dropped in April 2019. Maiwand, Syed’s kid, claimed that his father abused both his mother and him. According to the police complaint, the son’s head began bleeding after being struck with a metal spoon.
Syed has now been accused of two of the murders that occurred in Albuquerque: the killings of Muhammad Afzaal Hussain, 27, and Aftab Hussein, 41, on August 1 and July 26, respectively. The two males, who had immigrated to the US, were both from Pakistan. The firearm used to kill these two guys, according to the authorities, was discovered at Syed’s residence. Mohammad Zahir Ahmadi, 62, and Naeem Hussain, 25, were the names of the two additional victims, both of whom were of Afghan descent.
The enmity of Shiite Muslims was being looked into as a potential cause, according to Ahmad Assed, the president of the largest mosque in the city. Although the many branches of Islam hold divergent views regarding the Prophet Muhammad’s successor, they all adhere to the same sacred text and worship the same deity. Ehsan Shahalami, his brother-in-law, stated that Naeem Hussein only recently become a citizen of the United States. This year, he started his own trucking company. Hussein previously served as a case manager for Lutheran Family Services, where he assisted Afghan refugees who had moved to the US after the US military left the nation. While in his automobile in a parking lot, he was shot and died.
Mohammad Ahmadi was discovered outside the café he co-owned with his brother Sharief A Hadi. The Afghan-born brother moved to the United States in the early 1980s with their father and co-owned the Ariana Halal Market & Café. After Hadi, they first resided in Pennsylvania before relocating to New Mexico.
Aftab Hussein, the victim, relocated to New Mexico in 2016 and was employed as a busser for a neighborhood coffee shop. He and his housemates shared a second-floor apartment close to the Mesa Verde Community Center. He disclosed to his roommates that he had lately become engaged to a Pakistani woman. According to his friend Iftikhar Amirjan, he intended to travel to Pakistan and be hitched there. Since then, his terrified housemates have left.
Outside of his residence, Muhammad Afzaal Hussain was killed. Hussain, who was born in Pakistan, went to the United States in 2017 to enroll at the University of New Mexico for a master’s program in community and regional planning. From 2019 to 2020, he presided over the Graduate and Professional Student Association. He worked on Representative Melanie Stansbury’s congressional campaign before landing a job as the city of Espaola’s director of planning and land use.
Joe Biden, the vice president, had already voiced his outrage at the killings on Twitter. “The brutal killings of four Muslim men in Albuquerque infuriate and distress me. My condolences are with the families of the victims while we wait for a thorough investigation, and my Administration stands firmly with the Muslim community,” he stated. “These vile attacks have no place in America.”
