The deputy sheriff, Andrew Peery, was shot and killed on Sunday while responding to a shooting in Southern Colorado, according to the authorities.
In a statement released late on Sunday night, Governor Jared Polis expressed his sympathy.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and coworkers of Deputy Peery, as well as with all of our neighbors in law enforcement who risk their lives to protect others,” he said.
Who Is Colorado’s Andrew Peery?
Andrew Peery, a Colorado native, has worked for the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office as a highly recognized and decorated SWAT operative since 2016.
However, the highly distinguished deputy sheriff of El Paso County died after being shot on Sunday while performing his duties at a home in the Widefield-Security area.
Peery was taken urgently to the hospital, but he passed away from his wounds.
The division’s director, Adrian Vasquez, said in a news release on Monday: “It is impossible to express the atrocity that took place yesterday. My heart aches for the children who have lost a parent who was the police chief and a member of this town, as well as for the two families who have lost dear ones.
There is nothing we can do to fully repair what was lost or to replace individuals who have died away when these kinds of horrible acts are perpetrated.
“Please accept my profound condolences to the family mourning the loss of a loved one this morning,” he continued on behalf of the Colorado Springs Police Department.
The county deputy was killed in the line of duty after being shot
According to authorities, responding deputy Andrew Peery was hit by a bullet and sustained “severe injuries.”
When officers entered the house, they found the alleged gunman dead from what seemed to be a self-inflicted wound. At the scene, a lady was also found dead.
This event was sparked by a call reporting a shooting in the Ponderosa Drive block of Security-500 Widefield.
John Paz, the alleged shooter who resulted in the deaths of three people
The El Paso sheriff’s office dispatched two patrol deputies and a Fountain police officer in a similar manner. That’s when they say 33-year-old John Paz started shooting at them. When that happened, Peery was hit.
Additionally, the police also returned fire, and Peery received life-saving aid when additional help arrived. He was then taken to the hospital, where he died.
The responding police officers subsequently came across the dead woman in the yard. As of the time of writing, no name has been given to her. A study of the court records revealed that Paz was embroiled in divorce procedures.
Additionally, mourners have prayed for Perry’s family and posted his obituaries on social media. One person wrote, “A monument has been set up for Deputy Andrew Peery, who was slain in the line of duty yesterday night.
