Love and envy are two powerful emotions that have frequently been the impetus for humans to perpetrate horrible acts of violence against one another. This is exactly what happened in the case of Michael Zammitti Jr., a young father who was shot at his office in Wakefield, Massachusetts in March of 2006. Chester Roberts was unfortunate enough to be in the wrong location at the wrong moment, and as a result, he lost his life.

How Did Michael Zammitti Jr. and Chester Roberts Die?
Michael A. Zammitti Jr. AKA Mike Zammitti was born in Wakefield, Massachusetts, and he was the son of Michael A. and Patricia (LeFave) Zammitti. Mike’s keen interest in his father’s profession began when he was still in school. Mike Sr. was the owner and operator of Allstate Concrete Pumping Inc., a major dig contracting firm, and Mike Jr. After school, Mike went to work at a concrete pumping company while the rest of his friends went to play with their friends. Even before he was old enough to apply for a driver’s permit, he had already acquired the skills necessary to operate the large commercial vehicles.
Michael did not attend college but had immersed himself in the business with his father, Michael Sr. Soon, Allstate Concrete became a father and son operation run by Michael Sr. and Michael Jr. Mike, a calm and non-confrontational person, met Michele Begin, a soft-faced truck driver, while Mike was working at the airport. Michele was driving a delivery truck. They eventually got married and had three children: Julia L., Maria L., and Michael A. Zammitti, III. They fell in love with each other and decided to get married. Mike’s purchase of a vacation property in Freedom, New Hampshire, just down the street from another one of his parents’ properties on Lake Ossipee, marked the beginning of a prosperous new chapter in the family’s history.
On the morning of March 13, 2006, the Zammittis and their part-time driver and handyman, Chester Roberts, were scheduled to report at their office located at 17 New Salem Street in Wakefield at 8 o’clock. However, Michael Sr. was delayed because he had to take a telemarketing call, and he arrived a few minutes later than expected. As he was entering the office building, he discovered the mutilated body of Chester, who was 51 years old, lying in the garage. Michael Sr., who was obviously upset after making the finding, called 911 to report it and hurried up to the second story, where he found the death of his son, Michael Jr., who had been shot in the face. Michael Jr. was 39 years old.
Both of the victims had been shot with a shotgun that had a 16-gauge barrel, according to the autopsy findings that were obtained when the police arrived at the site. Mike had been shot not once, but twice in the face, whilst Chester had been struck in the back. Based on the characteristics of the injuries, the detectives were able to infer that Mike was the primary target of the attack, that Chester had most likely been face to face with the perpetrator or perpetrators coming down the stairs. He was shot in the back because he attempted to run away, which is why the wound was there.

Who Was Responsible for the Murders of Michael Zammitti Jr. and Chester Roberts?
After learning that the Zammittis had been sent a threatening note quite some time ago, the investigators at first suspected that one of the family’s competitors was behind the assassination attempt. They came up with the theory that Michael Sr. might have been the intended victim, but since he was running late, his son Michael Jr. was the one who had to deal with the consequences. Unfortunately, none of the leads turned out to be accurate, so the police had little choice but to concentrate their efforts on Mike’s loved ones and acquaintances. It was Patricia’s insight that led the investigators to a new person of interest, which ultimately led to the successful resolution of the case.
One of the investigators stated, “Michael Zammitti Jr.’s mother had indicated to us that there was a person in Freedom, New Hampshire named Sean Fitzpatrick and that on one occasion, she had seen her daughter-in-law in an embrace with Sean that she deemed, in her opinion, to be inappropriate for a married mother to have been in.” Michele admitted that she and Mike had been having an affair, despite the fact that Mike was gone for the majority of the time due to work and that Sean spent the majority of their time together at their house in Freedom.
Sean was ready for the cops to question him because he had prepared two alibi statements before they arrived. He stated that his lifelong neighbour, Gert Ducharme, had seen him at around 9 a.m. on March 13, 2006, rendering it impossible for him to have committed the double homicide that had been charged against him. He also asserted, as his second plausible explanation, that he was awakened in the morning by a phone call, which served as an alibi for him. When the authorities reviewed the records of his cell phone and spoke with his neighbour, however, they discovered evidence that contradicted his allegations. Gert said to the officers that she had seen Sean between 10 and 10:30 in the morning, despite the fact that Sean’s cell phone records show that he did not turn his phone on until 9:45 in the morning.
The inconsistencies served to strengthen his position as a suspect in the investigation. On March 29, 2006, the police went to Freedom to investigate a series of suspicious burglaries, one of which included the theft of a 16-gauge shotgun from Michael Srhouse. .’s The cops discovered a green Ford F150 pickup truck that had an extended cab while they were looking at the residence of Sean’s next-door neighbour. The investigators had located a vehicle that appeared to be identical to the one they were looking for while reviewing surveillance video from the scene of the incident.
Fred Martin, a former Marine who had spent his entire life in Florida, was the owner of the truck and had been there the entire time. On the morning of the murder, he checked his E-ZPass account and discovered a transaction. In addition, the authorities discovered a recording on Fred’s transponder that stated the same thing, and the detectives verified that the murderer had made use of this automobile. Sean, who had become the major suspect in the double homicide, declined to provide any additional assistance to the police when they questioned him. On the other hand, the police detained him for driving with a driver’s licence that had expired and were able to obtain his fingerprints in the course of the investigation.
The Zammit family had received a threatening letter, and they determined that the fingerprints on that letter matched the fingerprints they found on the letter. They also collected the DNA from a condolence card that Sean had sent to Michele and found that it matched the DNA that was found in Fred’s truck, despite the fact that Fred had never allowed Sean to enter his truck. On June 6, 2006, Sean, age 44, was taken into custody and charged with two counts of murder in connection with the incident.

In August of 2008, Sean Fitzpatrick was put on trial for the first time; however, the court ruled that the trial was a mistrial since the jury was unable to come to a decision by a majority vote. In February of 2009, he was put on trial for the second time, and a jury in the Middlesex Superior Court ultimately found him guilty on both charges of first-degree murder. He was given a term of two life sentences to be served consecutively, none of which carried the possibility of release.
