Ornato told Hutchinson that Trump got angry and tried to grab the steering wheel of the car and lunged at Engel’s clavicles. She said that Engel was there with Ornato when he told the story, but Engel never disputed what Ornato said. CNN said three days after Hutchinson’s testimony that it had talked to two Secret Service agents who had heard about the incident from many other agents, including Trump’s driver, since February 2021. Even though the details were different, agents all agreed that there was a heated argument. One agent said that Trump “tried to lunge over the seat, but no one knew why,” but no one said that Trump attacked Engel.
