What Happened To Trey Lance? Ankle Surgery Update On 49ers QB And His Recovery

Fans are sad because San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance is out of the game right now because he just had ankle surgery.

The 22-year-old NFL star-to-be was his team’s starter and was known for his smart and interesting play. His season is over because of the injury, which is a shame.

Lance was only picked up by the 49ers in the 2021 NFL Draft, which was the only time they tried to get him. During his first season, he mostly played as a backup. He was going to be the starting quarterback before he got hurt.

Since he was just starting out in his career, the news about his injury and surgery really shocked and upset his fans. The winner of the Walter Payton and Jerry Rice Awards has messed up the 2020 NCAA Division I Football Championship Game.

How long will Trey Lance’s injury keep him out of action?

Trey Lance is getting medical care and is no longer in danger of getting hurt. He is also on his way to getting better from the pain and mental trauma.

As was already said, the injury was a big reason why his career stats went down because it put his career on hold.

The starting quarterback will miss the entire 2022 season, but he will be fine to play again in 2023.

In an official statement about the case, the 49ers said that Lance hurt his right ankle, which means he will miss the whole season.

His surgery took place at Stanford Hospital, where doctors fixed two injuries to his ankle, which seemed to be a broken fibula and a torn ligament.

The statement went on to say that Lance will start the process of getting better and will be ready to play again in 2023.

Trey also used Instagram to let his fans know what was going on and to thank them for their prayers and messages.

After Trey Lance and Brynn Chandler broke up, Brynn Chandler kept quiet

Trey Lance depends on the help of his fans and team right now, but he used to care deeply about his girlfriend.

The NFL quarterback was in a relationship with Brynn Chandler, who used to play volleyball for the Georgia Dogs. This made the news.

She was a setter for her college volleyball team and was well-liked by her college friends. Chris Chandler was a quarterback in the NFL for 17 years and led the Atlanta Falcons to Super Bowl XXXIII. Ms. Chandler is his daughter.

Georgia Dogs says that Brynn’s mom, Diane, played tennis at USC, which means she was born to be an athlete. Ryann, her sister, played volleyball at UCLA. Skye, her other sister, went to the University of Arizona and graduated.

Trey and Brynn fell in love while they were both playing sports in college. Fans of both of them knew about their relationship and thought they were perfect for each other.

But since they broke up, things have changed for this couple. Both of them are no longer following each other on social media, and their old pictures have been taken down.

So, Trey and Brynn are no longer together, even though they loved and helped each other for many years.

49ers quarterback Trey Lance’s brother Bryce and his family are concerned about his health

Others who are very worried about Trey Lance’s health and NFL career are his family and his brother Bryce.

This quarterback for the 49ers comes from a family of athletes, just like his ex-girlfriend. His father, Carlton, played cornerback in the Canadian Football League for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Also, Lance the elder played in the World League of American Football for the London Monarchs.

Angie Lance, Trey’s mother, is a caring and helpful person. He and his brother Bryce grew up wanting to play in the NFL because their father was a great player.

Since Tey just started his career as a starting quarterback instead of a backup player, it makes sense that his family would be upset that he has to miss a whole season.

At North Dakota State, his younger brother Bryce plays wide receiver. Soon, he might join his older brother on the NFL field.

Bryce’s Instagram account usually has photos of him with Trey. But the two brothers know where the other one stands in the sport.

Before high school and during

Lance was born in Marshall, Minnesota, on May 9, 2000.

His father, Carlton, who used to play cornerback for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League and the London Monarchs of the World League of American Football, did most of his training.

Lance played quarterback for the first time in middle school. Before that, he was a running back. Later, he went to Marshall High School, where people thought he would be the best quarterback in Minnesota. Lance wanted to play at the University of Minnesota at first, and after going to a recruiting event there in February 2017, he was ready to sign with them. But they and other Power Five schools thought he would be a good wide receiver or defensive back. Only schools in the Group of Five conferences or the Football Championship Subdivision gave Lance the chance to keep playing quarterback. He chose North Dakota State in the end, in December 2017.

Going to college

Lance was a redshirt in 2018, but he played in two games and scored two touchdowns on the ground. In 2019, he was named the starting quarterback. In 2020, he led the Bison to the NCAA Division I Football Championship Game, where they won 28–20 and he was named the game’s most valuable player. Lance finished the season by completing 192 of 287 passes for 2,786 yards, 28 touchdowns, and no interceptions. This was an NCAA record for the most passing attempts in a season without an interception. He ran the ball 169 times for a total of 1100 yards and 14 touchdowns. Lance won the Walter Payton Award for being the best offensive player in the FCS and the Jerry Rice Award for being the best freshman in the FCS.

Lance was supposed to start again in 2020, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the season had to be put off. In October 2020, he only played in one game, which was against Central Arkansas. Lance threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more. The only interception he threw in college was a pick-six. The Bison were supposed to make up the rest of the season in early 2021, but Lance said after the game that he would opt out to prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft.

Before the 2021 NFL Draft, most experts thought the San Francisco 49ers would pick Lance or Alabama quarterback Mac Jones third overall. Instead, they traded up with the Miami Dolphins for their first-round picks in 2022 and 2023 and their third-round pick in 2022. Lance was picked by the 49ers, making him their first first-round quarterback since Alex Smith in 2005. He was also the second-highest FCS player picked after Carson Wentz, who was also a quarterback at North Dakota State. Lance was one of five quarterbacks taken in the first round. He was thought to be one of the best prospects in the draft. On July 28, 2021, he signed a $4-year rookie deal worth $34.1 million.

2021

Lance started the 2021 season as the backup quarterback to Jimmy Garoppolo, but he played his first game in the NFL in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions. He was only used for one play in the first quarter. On that play, he threw a five-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Trent Sherfield, which helped his team win 41–33. Lance played two plays against the Green Bay Packers in Week 3. On the first play, he ran for a touchdown. The score of the game was a loss, 28–30.

When Garoppolo got hurt in Week 4’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, Lance took over for him in the second half. This was Lance’s first significant playing time. He completed 9 of 18 passes for 157 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also ran seven times for 41 yards, but the 49ers lost 21–28. Due to Garoppolo’s injury, Lance was chosen to start the game against the Arizona Cardinals the following week. Lance completed 15 of 29 passes for 192 yards, ran 16 times for 89 yards, and threw his first interception to safety Budda Baker on the 49ers’ first drive. The 49ers lost 10–17. After the game, it was said that Lance had sprained his knee. Lance got hurt, so he couldn’t play against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 7. Nate Sudfeld took his place as the second quarterback after Garoppolo returned. He came back the next week to back up Garoppolo in the team’s 33–22 win over the Chicago Bears. Lance didn’t get back on the field until the 49ers’ last drive of Week 11 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Before taking the victory formation to finish off the 30–10 win, he ran for seven yards.

Lance stayed the backup quarterback for the next five weeks, until Garoppolo hurt his thumb against the Tennessee Titans in a 17–20 loss. In Week 17 against the Houston Texans, which was Lance’s second start, he threw for 249 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. The 49ers went on to win 23–7, giving Lance his first win of his career. After Garoppolo came back for the regular season finale against the Los Angeles Rams, Lance’s start was his last game of the season.  During the 49ers’ run to the NFC Championship Game, which they lost to the Rams in, he played as a backup. Lance said after the season that he had spent the whole year dealing with an injury to his right index finger that he got in a preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

2022

Lance was chosen as the starter instead of Garoppolo for the 2022 season, but he only played in two games before breaking his ankle in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks, which ended his season.

His only full game of the season was the season opener against the Chicago Bears. He completed 13 of 28 passes for 164 yards and an interception in a 10–19 loss.
