Anthony Templet lived in Louisiana at the time. He was only 20 years old. In June of 2019, he killed his father Burt Templet in the family home by shooting him.
WAFB9 says that the first charge against Templet was murder in the second degree. But the sentence was changed to manslaughter after his family said that he had acted in self-defense because his father had been beating him for years.
He pleaded “no contest” to a charge of negligent murder for the death of his father the year before. Due to this plea, he was given five years of supervised probation, but he got credit for the time he had already spent in jail.

WAFB9 says that Burt tried to look through Anthony’s phone to see if he had talked to Burt’s ex-wife, Susan Templet. Anthony said that his drunk father had tried to attack him before the man ran to his room and grabbed a gun from the nightstand.

Anthony Templet defended himself by shooting his father three times. Still, when more reports came in, a shocking fact came to light.
Anthony’s long-lost half-sister Natasha got in touch with him when she wasn’t expected to. She said that Burt had taken Anthony away 11 years ago, which meant that he had been missing for more than a decade.
Natasha told Wafb.com that in 2008, Burt had taken Anthony, who was then five years old, from his home in Texas and taken him to an unknown place. She said that it took her eleven years to find out if her brother was still alive or not. She went on to say that Anthony’s father had a pattern of abusing him and keeping him away from other people when he was young.
She talked about what they did at home every day before Burt took Anthony away. She said that Burt and her mother had been together for about ten years. Still, the whole time they were together, they were too mean to each other.
When Burt took Anthony, his mother, Teresa, and his sister put up “Lost Child” posters, but no one ever called them back or gave them any information. Once Burt had Anthony, he started to keep him away from other people and wouldn’t let him go to school. Because of this, Anthony didn’t talk to many people outside of his family.
The Advocate says that Anthony’s lawyer, Jarrett Ambeau, said that his client had kept his father alone and often hurt him.
What’s going on with Anthony Templet?
At this moment, it’s not clear where Anthony is. Anthony just started his probation in 2021, so it is likely that he will still have to finish it.
Based on what Distractify says, Anthony is supposed to finish high school and get counseling. He can also meet the terms of his punishment by getting a full-time job or going to school. Let’s say he is able to do all of these things without getting into any trouble. In that case, his criminal record might be cleared up in the long run. It means that it won’t exist anymore.
Decider says that since he got out on probation, Anthony has gotten back in touch with his mother and the rest of her side of the family.
In the documentary, a younger version of Anthony has trouble keeping his emotions in check as he watches an old interview video of himself. The version of himself from the past thinks for a moment before answering “yes” when asked if he thinks he can live a normal life.
