Henson acknowledged to Holbert that the 25-month wait for news of her daughter was stressful.
Also present in court was Bordeaux’s brother, who frequently lost his temper before being carried out by deputies. After the apology, Bordeaux’s mother, Johnna Henson, spoke and was upset when Holbert didn’t look at her.

According to Cumberland County District Attorney Billy West in court, Bordeaux had divorced her husband in April 2012 and was dating a man from her home state of Florida when they met Holbert at Froggy Bottoms.
She and Holbert went to the bar for an evening of drinking, karaoke, and pool after her boyfriend left for Florida.
West claims that later throughout the evening, Bordeaux became aware of Holbert’s status as a recognized sex offender. In the early hours of April 14, 2012, Holbert asked Bordeaux if they could spend more time together as they exited the pub, but Bordeaux refused him with a “derogatory comment about his being a sex offender,” according to West.
Kelli Bordeaux had been concealing a dangerous and private matter. Michael was unaware that the attractive 23-year-old soldier had been enjoying an adulterous relationship for more than a year.
West claims Holbert punched her, knocked her unconscious, dragged her to his car, and drove her to his makeshift camp behind the bar. Bordeaux screamed as soon as she regained consciousness. Holbert “struck her until she stopped screaming, stopped moving,” the prosecutor claimed.
The next day, Holbert buried Bordeaux after driving into some nearby woods.
Authorities questioned Holbert multiple times after Bordeaux vanished because he was the last person to see her. However, he insisted that he only dropped Bordeaux off at her apartment complex that night and was unaware of what happened after that.
According to West, Holbert neglected his responsibilities as a registered sex offender and was therefore imprisoned for a significant portion of 2012 and 2013. According to West, even though some other inmates said he made disparaging statements about Bordeaux’s disappearance, there wasn’t enough evidence to support charges against him.

Late in 2013, Holbert became friends with David Marshburn, a Smithfield private investigator working on the Bordeaux case independently. A few months later, Holbert drove Marshburn to Bordeaux’s shallow burial.
W. David Smith Jr., a defense attorney, said in court on Friday, “This situation is awful. Smith claimed that Holbert was drunk and simply “snapped” when Bordeaux told he was a sex offender.
“He neglected his morals. He disregarded basic sense, “said he. Smith stated that throughout the prolonged searches for Bordeaux following her disappearance, Holbert repeatedly considered stepping forward and confessing but eventually “lacked the confidence to do so because he realized what he was going to have to face.”

Bordeaux’s family and fellow soldiers are praying for her survival.
On May 31, 2014, Bordeaux was buried in Mount Peace Cemetery in St. Cloud, Florida, with full military honors.
Nick Holbert had buried Kelli Bordeaux’s body and then led private investigator David Marshburn and his cadaver dog to it.
Marshburn then said, “We dig around a little and discover the garment’s remnants. We restart the digging and find the leg bone. One further dig reveals the full jacket. Holbert, a notorious sexual offender, acknowledged to Marshburn that he had offered Bordeaux a ride home the night Bordeaux was killed. Holbert lived in the woods behind the bar and worked there part-time.

Holbert is currently serving a life sentence without the chance of parole for first-degree murder and kidnapping.
Holbert was detained by police. He later confessed to first-degree murder after that. Throughout the hearing for his punishment, Holbert made an effort to apologize to Kelli’s family.
