FANS OF UMBRELLA ACADEMY ARE ‘TERRIFIED’ AS ALLISON CROSSES THE LINE WITH LUTHER

Because of a difficult scene with Luther in the show’s latest season, fans of Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy are dubbing Allison’s behavior “irredeemable.”

The Umbrella Academy is a fan favorite on the streaming service, with an amazing Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 80%. It also has a devoted following on many social media sites.

The superhero tale depicts six estranged siblings with amazing skills who are brought together by the death of their millionaire father. After discovering devastating family secrets, they must band together to avert a global menace.

The Umbrella Academy, based on singer Gerard Way’s comic book series of the same name, is a sympathetic story about a dysfunctional, chosen family. The characters are a little chaotic, and their skills are out of this world, but that is what makes them so appealing to viewers.

Fans, on the other hand, can’t get enough of Allison’s – AKA Number 3 or The Rumour – character arc in season three, in which she uses her powers to sexually attack her adoptive brother, Luther.

I realize Allison has been through a lot, but there’s no reason to force Luther to want her, especially now that he’s finally happy. I understand she is mentally ill, but it is no excuse for the abuse she did. I’m terrified.

IN EPISODE FIVE, WHAT HAPPENS BETWEEN ALLISON AND LUTHER?

Allison’s power allows her to command people to do her bidding just by saying, “I heard a rumour…” Hence her superhero name, The Rumour.

Her time-traveling adventures in season two have life-changing implications in season three, and when she returns to the present, she discovers that she has lost both her lover and her daughter.

Allison, who was formerly a stoic, becomes inconsolable over her bereavement and isolates herself from her family. Luther contacts his sister midway through episode five. “I know you Allison, and I know when you’re drowning,” he says before hugging her.

Allison misinterprets Luther’s care for romantic love and attempts to kiss him, which he respectfully denies. However, it’s worth noting that the couple previously had romantic affections for one other, as revealed in season one. Rather than accepting Luther’s refusal, she then whispers, “I heard you want me.”

Luther kisses her fiercely, unable to stop himself, until Allison cries at him to stop. Allison flees the scene, leaving Luther perplexed and terrified by what has occurred.

FANS’ REACTIONS TO THE SCENE

“God, I know Allison has been through a lot, but there is no reason to force Luther to want her, especially now that he is finally happy,” one fan tweeted. I understand she is mentally ill, but it is no excuse for the abuse she did. “I’m terrified.”

Another admirer described the episode and Allison’s following defense as “triggering.” “Sadly, as a rape survivor myself, this isn’t new,” they tweeted. They had to be up to something. F that. Do I now have carte blanche [sic] to do whatever I want?”

Another person mentioned that this is where Allison’s character has been heading. “I don’t think people know that the program has been setting up Allison’s villain arch for a while,” they wrote.

I was going to wait till I finished umbrella academy season 3 before commenting, but Allison’s character is irredeemable at this point. Losing a child is heartbreaking, but it doesn’t justify murder and sexual assault.

I don’t think people know how long the show has been building up to Allison’s villain arch. If you follow her progress throughout the show, you’ll notice that it was all leading up to this. She’s always been selfish, manipulative, and abusive.
