The woman’s chilling words after stabbing her sons multiple times on the highway are, “Mummy loves you.”
ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA: Authorities have filed two counts of attempted murder against a lady who allegedly stabbed her children on a highway, and they have praised a man for stepping in to stop what could have been a far worse situation.

On Monday, August 15, late at night, Megan Jayne Somerville allegedly pulled over on the North-South Expressway, took her two young sons out of the car, and then stabbed them repeatedly with a knife. According to police, a bystander who saw the incident stopped his car on the highway, intervened, and disarmed the suspect. The two youngsters suffered injuries that required immediate medical attention at Adelaide’s Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

Fortunately, early on Tuesday, August 16, Megan’s eight-year-old son underwent surgery for his wounds and is anticipated to fully recover. Even though his three-year-old brother’s condition was said to be stable, he was also going to need surgery. While everything was going on, their 35-year-old mother was taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital and had a checkup. She was remanded in custody to return to court in December, according to court documents, despite having a previous bail hearing where her attorneys were given the opportunity to intervene.

Following the event, Superintendent Selena Dinning expressed how appreciative the police were to the man, who wasn’t identified, and those who helped with the matter. Dinning stated, “I’m sure the situation would have been considerably worse if this man hadn’t stopped.” “We are very appreciative that he stopped, and we are also appreciative of the two other bystanders who helped him. He acted with great bravery in our opinion. We are quite happy that he was there at the appropriate time and place. According to the superintendent, it was unclear what started the altercation or where the woman was going. She was on the expressway, so it wasn’t far from her home, but Dinning said he couldn’t tell why she was there. According to other stories, Megan allegedly told her sons, “Mummy loves you,” as she was being led away from the scene.

Authorities are currently looking into the family’s previous interactions with the police and child protective services. Police have already identified other family members, including the boys’ biological father, but they will still consult with the authorities concerning the children’s future care.

On Tuesday, Megan’s sister Jessica Somerville posted on social media to say that the suspect had previously spoken with the Department of Child Protection and the South Australia Police. Jessica claimed that despite numerous meetings with SAPOL and the Department of Child Protection, the system had not effectively intervened. Megan has struggled with serious mental illness and drug addiction for the past eight years, and despite the efforts of her loved ones and friends, she has gotten worse with a number of occurrences over that time.

Peter Malinauskas, the premier of South Australia, called the accounts of the incident “obviously appalling.” There are so many unresolved issues in this situation, he said. It’s appropriate for the police inquiry to finish its work, and it’s difficult to comprehend, he continued. God knows what circumstances lead to this utter catastrophe, if the accusations are found to be accurate.
