In each episode of “The Great Christmas Light Fight,” four different families compete against one another to discover which one can best capture the spirit of Christmas through their respective holiday decorations. The addition of holiday-themed shows like this one from ABC to the Disney+ service is something that I believe to be an excellent idea. This would be especially beneficial for them in the United States, because we don’t get some of the other content owing to remarks made in the past by Disney, Fox, or even Sony. It captures the reality competition show mania that is still prevalent on television today, but it manages to keep things lighthearted and amicable while omitting the turmoil that is common in other reality series. It’s possible that this is because the show’s characters and their families never actually interact with one another, but it’s still lovely to observe.
If there is one thing that I could change about the way the season is played, it would be that there is a grand champion at the conclusion of the year. I believe that the last episode should consist of each of the judges comparing and contrasting the victors, and then at the end of the season, a grand champion should be named and awarded a larger prize along with a larger trophy. It’s going to give new meaning to the “Fight” part of the term “The Great Christmas Light Fight,” I imagine. Additionally, it would be awesome if the judges were able to observe some of the other winners that were selected by the other judges.
