In 2013, Terry Volner admitted to killing Jose Benitez in the first degree. Volner, a Hartville resident who had previously been sentenced to life in prison without the chance of release, admitted guilt in 2011 for the murder of 4-year-old Dusty Guenther.
Authorities asserted that Volner hacked the child to death while watching him, then dumped his body in a sewage lagoon.
Volner had planned to kill the mother of the boy, her other three kids, and her lover, but none of them were hurt.

They also found several love letters he had sent to Gina inside the residence. She gave birth to four children. One of her daughters was apparently there when the murder took place, according to court documents. She miraculously made it out unscathed.
When the incident happened, Gina was at work and her two eldest girls were in school. Although the three daughters were unharmed and no additional bodies had been discovered, Volner claimed that he had killed all four kids as well as Ms. Guenther’s new partner.
The victim’s body was found in an ice-covered lagoon in Wright County, Missouri, not far from his residence. He had served a three-year sentence for theft, nevertheless, and had been freed from jail before he periodically lived at Gina’s house, it was later learned.
