Longmire relocated to New South Wales to work as the Sydney Swans’ assistant coach.
In 2006, he was viewed as a leading candidate for the coaching position at St. Kilda Football Club, which became available after Grant Thomas was fired. Ross Lyon, a fellow Swans assistant coach at the time, eventually won the position.
