AFL player Joel Selwood is the third of his parents’ four children

On May 26, 1988, in the small Victorian city of Bendigo, Joel Selwood was born to his parents, Bryce Selwood, Joel’s father, and Maree Selwood, Joel’s mother.

To help him recover from a walking disability, Selwood had to wear leg splints as a toddler. But despite his illness, he managed to fulfil his lifelong ambitions. Early on, Selwood’s athletic ability showed promise. Since he was a very little child, his parents have always been there for him.

With the exception of the 100-meter sprint, Joel owned all of the Bendigo Sports Centre’s records in one year for racing and jumping, and from the under-10s through the under-15s, he was the state hurdling champion.

In a similar vein, the football player, who was playing against children four years older than him, scored three goals in his first ever competitive game. Catholic College in Bendigo was where Selwood studied.

Before being chosen to represent the Bendigo Pioneers in the TAC Cup competition in 2005, the AFL player started playing football with St Therese’s Maroon and played for Sandhurst Football Club for the majority of his junior years.

Billy Selwood Greater Brother Another former AFL player was Adam Selwood

The well-known Australian Rules Football player Joel Selwood is the younger brother of Adam Selwood, a former player in the sport. In the Australian Football League, he once represented the West Coast Eagles (AFL).

Selwood played under-18 football for the Bendigo Pioneers in the TAC Cup before being selected by West Coast in the third round of the 2002 National Draft. In 2003, Adam, Joel’s brother, made his club debut. Two years later, in 2005, he received a nomination for the AFL Rising Star award.

The senior Selwood alternated between midfield and defence as West Coast defeated Sydney for the 2006 premiership. He also represented Australia in the 2008 International Rules Series game against Ireland. He announced his retirement at the conclusion of the 2013 season after appearing in 187 games for the team.

Adam is currently 38 years old and was born on May 1st, 1984. He is four years older than his brother Joel and a veteran of 187 West Coast Eagles games. He has always served as Joel’s motivation.

Athlete Joel Selwood of Australian Rules Football Troy Selwood, an older brother, is another family member.

Adam and Troy Selwood are twin brothers. Joel Selwood plays Australian rules football, and Troy is Joel’s older brother. He was an Australian football player who had previously played for the Brisbane Lions in the AFL (AFL).

Troy was chosen with the 19th overall choice in the 2002 AFL Draft from Sandhurst. He debuted for the Brisbane Lions in Round 1 of 2005 against St. Kilda whilst wearing the number 28 guernsey. Due to his endurance and responsible style of play, Selwood was regularly deployed in a tagging role on significant opponents.

He was knocked out on May 9, 2009, in a collision with Richmond’s Alex Rance. After Round 21 of the 2010 season, the Brisbane Lions informed Selwood that he would be released.

Additionally, from 2011 to 2013, he led the Geelong Football Club’s Victorian Football League (VFL) team for two seasons. On October 1, 2010, Selwood was speculated to be moving back to his home state of Victoria and joining the Geelong Football Club in an effort to resurrect his AFL career.

Selwood, 34, is said to be juggling working for Geelong, playing for the Cats in the VFL, and finishing his commerce degree. He aimed to play in the 2012 AFL campaign.

Brother-in-law of Joel Selwood The Four’s youngest member is Scott Selwood

Scott Selwood, the youngest of the four Selwood brothers, is two years younger than his older brother, Joel. Scott plays in the AFL, just like every other brother in the family.

In the Australian Football League, Scott also played for the West Coast Eagles and the Geelong Football Club (AFL). He received the John Worsfold Medal from the West Coast Eagles in 2012. Selwood was signed away from the Bendigo Pioneers in the TAC Cup after West Coast selected him with the fourth choice (number 22 overall) in the 2007 AFL Draft.

In the second part of the 2014 season, when the club’s then-captain Darren Glass announced his retirement in the middle of the year, the youngest Selwood brother also served as one of the five acting captains.

On October 12, 2015, Scott, a restricted free agent, followed his brother Joel at Geelong after departing West Coast. Selwood was able to come back for the season’s final five games despite suffering an ankle injury that kept him out for the majority of 2016.

Due to hamstring concerns, Geelong delisted the 32-year-old football player at the end of the 2019 season after only two appearances. After being delisted from Geelong in 2019, Selwood joined Collingwood as a development coach.

The six members of Joel Selwood’s family do not include a sister

Joel Selwood, a well-known Australian Rules Football player, grew up with his three brothers in the same home. In his family of six people, which also includes his parents, he does not have any sisters.

Joel grew up in a home that valued athletics. The majority of his kin are associated with sports and athletes in some capacity. He has three brothers, and as we covered in the piece, all of them play football for Australia.

The mother of the Selwood boys, Maree, also had great tennis and sprinting skills. The 2005 AFL Players Association Mother of the Year Award was given to Maree in honour of her commitment to football via each of her boys.

Frank, Fred, and Harry Crapper, the brothers who all played VFL football in the 1930s, were Maree’s grandparents, and Selwood is also a direct descendant of them.

Joel, on the other hand, collaborates with his parents and brothers at the Seeing Eye Dogs Association (SEDA) organisation. In honour of Selwood and his family, one of the puppies sponsored by them is being trained to be a seeing-eye dog. This puppy has been given the name “Selwood.”

The family’s wide geographic dispersal around Australia—Adam, Scott, and Troy are in Western Australia, while Joel and Troy are still in Victoria—according to SEDA, has contributed in spreading knowledge of the organization’s broad outreach initiatives.
