Richard Donoghue January 6th Testimony

Donoghue is due to testify before the Jan. 6 committee on June 23. During Donald Trump’s final year in office, he served as acting deputy attorney general. Donoghue was one of the Justice Department personnel who resisted pressure to back President Trump’s baseless claims of election fraud.
The focus of the committee’s fifth day of public hearings will be on how Trump persuaded the Justice Department to back him in overturning the results of the 2020 election.

Richard was one of the Department of Justice lawyers that investigated Trump’s unsupported allegations of voter fraud but failed to find any evidence of it. He was one among those who chose not to use their positions to support the previous president’s claims.
Trump allegedly contemplated replacing Jeff Rosen, the acting attorney general, with Jeffrey Clark, a separate Department of Justice attorney who had assured the president he could help him overturn the election results.
Donoghue was interviewed by the committee in private and was caught on camera talking about his interactions with Trump and his claims of electoral fraud. After denying one allegation of electoral fraud, Donoghue predicted that Trump would move on to a different one right away.
