This review of the movie Togo does not contain any spoilers

We meet Togo, a middle-aged man who works on the streets as a car attendant, assisting clients with parking their vehicles and pointing them in the right path. The movie was directed by Israel Adrián Caetano and is available on Netflix. One day, a young woman of the same age insists that she will labour with him on the streets. The young lady comes from a wealthy household, but she and her parents have a contentious relationship despite the fact that she takes medication for depression. Togo is clueless of the history of her family.

Togo also has a daughter, but she is currently residing in a treatment facility. He typically sees her every week. One day, a few people who distribute drugs approach him with the intention of making a sale. They want him to give them permission to conduct their drug trade on his street. They present him with a lucrative offer, but he declines to accept it. Togo and one of his buddies who works in the adjacent block are the targets of the men’s threats.

There have been a lot of movies that we’ve watched that are centred on the drug trade. There are a number of television shows that focus on notorious drug cartels, drug lords, or people who create meth and sell it. The director Caetano shows the audience the other side of the illegal business in the film that he made.

He has demonstrated how people who make their living on the streets are harassed or coerced into participating in activities that violate the law. The story, on the other hand, doesn’t really have anything that makes it entertaining to watch. According to the summary, he has the intention of watching over his neighbourhood. However, the drug sellers come and go and are sometimes overlooked because of their transient nature. Their inclusion is arbitrary, and they don’t pose much of a challenge to the protagonist.

Togo Still 1

The plot contains a number of unrelated events, none of which can be explained after the fact. It is demonstrated to us how Togo survives on the streets as he waits for his daughter to finish her treatment. Even though he doesn’t want his daughter to live with him, he offers the position to an unnamed teen girl in order to help her out.

Neither the father-daughter dynamic nor the girl contribute anything meaningful to the story’s overall progression. Even the drug dealers appear out of nowhere, and their confrontation at the conclusion takes place with very little foreshadowing.

The movie would have been more effective as a short film that focused on the difficulties that car attendants have to deal with. It would have been preferable if the director had concentrated solely on the people involved in the trafficking.

Review of Togo: Concluding Thoughts

The film does not even come close to living up to Netflix’s description of itself as a gritty drama. Despite the fact that Diego Alonso has done a good job, this does not assist to make the plot more intriguing. The movie, which is about shady business dealings and the challenges faced by traffickers, doesn’t go anywhere and can’t keep your attention.

The motion picture is currently available to stream on Netflix.
