Revenge of Others: Review
In this frantic new K-drama featuring Lomon from “All of Us Are Dead,” everyone is a suspect.
It’s preferable to serve revenge cold. Take it from high school student Ok Chan-mi, 19, who stars in the latest K-drama on Disney+ called Revenge of Others.
8 K-dramas to watch now that will be released in November 2022
The programme opens with Chanmi (Shin Ye-eun, He Is Psychometric, More Than Friends) learning that her twin brother Park Wonseok (Kang Yeol) has passed away in circumstances that she refuses to believe or accept. It promises to be an action-packed revenge thriller. She is the star of the shooting team at her high school, but Chan-mi upends her life and travels across the country in search of his potential killer. She first meets Ji Soo-heon (All of Us Are Dead actor Lomon), a self-aware student who appears positive and level-headed despite his problematic home situation, at her new school, Yongtan High.
The character of Soo-heon excels. In the first two episodes, he establishes himself as a mature and principled (albeit troubled) student who is popular at school and immediately likeable. He stands up for his harassed peers, which makes him Chan-ideal mi’s ally. She is the more independent of the two, new to Seoul, and seeking retaliation. However, in the first episode, extremely terrible events cast severe doubt on Soo-destiny. heon’s Despite this, they form a sweet bond that makes you want to do anything to improve Soo-circumstances heon’s so they may live up to their potential as an unstoppable force for good.
By the end of episode two, we know one thing for sure: everyone is a suspect in the death of Wonseok. Despite how likeable Soo-heon is, there are a few things that are yet unanswered that imply we can’t completely rule him out. Seok Jae-beom (Signal and My First Love actor Seo Ji-hoon), a renowned Grade-A student and the son of affluent parents, is revealed to be retaking his senior year owing to cryptic medical difficulties – which creates even more doubts. Spine-chilling school bullies who seem the perfect culprits also arrive.
On the surface, Revenge of Others appears to have everything that makes for a great teen revenge thriller. It’s fashionable and has that early 2000s teen horror flair, with a dark, gothic school as its setting, bullies who instil unfathomable terror among their friends, and two (so far) platonic, heroic characters who could just save the day if they set their own problems aside.
The screenplay was written by Lee Hee-Myung, who also wrote the screenplays for Into the World Again and Beautiful Gong Shim. With just the first two episodes, there have already been several major revelations as well as the introduction of numerous new characters and prospective storylines. Nevertheless, Revenge of Others’ visual appeal and Lomon and Shin’s outstanding portrayals of Soo-heon and Chan-mi are sufficient justifications for watching episodes three and onward.
