Sanders was named the Newcomer of the Week for the second time after he completed nine of 12 passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another 88 yards in a 34-27 win over TCU. Sanders tore a ligament in his throwing hand in the next game, which was against Kansas. This meant that his redshirt freshman season was over.
