How I did in high school and college
McMillan grew up in the center of North Carolina’s basketball country. He went to William G. Enloe High School in Raleigh, but major college scouts didn’t notice him there. After playing for two years at Chowan College in Murfreesboro, North Carolina, which was only a two-year school at the time, he went back to Raleigh to play for Jim Valvano at North Carolina State. McMillan helped NC State tie for first place in the regular season of the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1985. In the 1985 and 1986 NCAA Championship Tournaments, the Wolfpack lost to St. John’s and Kansas, respectively, in the Elite Eight.
