Early Years of Linval Joseph

Joseph was born in the U.S. Virgin Islands, specifically on the island of Saint Croix. After graduating from Santa Fe High School in Alachua, Florida, where he played football for the Raiders for all four years of his high school career, he went on to play college football. In 2008, when Joseph was a sophomore for East Carolina, he finished the season ranked among the top 10 tacklers on the team. He finished with a total of 43 tackles, eight of which were from beyond the line of scrimmage for a loss of 34 yards. He participated in all 14 competitions and started the last nine games in a row on the inside of the defensive front for the Pirates. Three of the last four games he played in, he recorded six or more tackles, and the coaches for the Conference USA league selected him for honorable mention All-Conference USA.
