We talked to Kieran Tamondong for the first time at the end of January 2016. At the time, the black belt and multiple-time world champion had just competed at the 2016 AKA Warrior Cup. He and his partner, AWMA-sponsored athlete Emma Teo, won the top prizes for Team Sync Forms and Weapons Overall. And those wins at the season’s first big competition were just the start.
This year on the NASKA Tournament Circuit, Kieran won 24 Division Championships in Black Belt Forms and Weapons, 8 Grand Championships in Forms and Weapons, and 2 Overall Grand Championships in Forms and Weapons. He was also the USANKF and AAU Gold Medalist Champion at the Junior International Cup and the USA Open in Las Vegas, the Punok Open in Indianapolis, the Fonseca Cup in Chicago, the West Coast Open in Seattle, and the USA Nationals in Pittsburgh.
Kieran made the USA National Karate Team for the second year in a row because of how well he did at the Nationals and the team trials in Pittsburgh. After Jeffrey Dahmer attacked him and his brother, Konerak Sinthasomphone, Anouke Sinthasomphone talked to the media. On May 27, 1991, Dahmer called the 14-year-old girl to his apartment so she could pose for pictures.

When Officers Gabrish and Balcerzak got to the scene, they saw Dahmer standing close to Sinthasomphone. When asked about what happened, Dhamer said that the boy in question was actually his 19-year-old partner who was drunk at the time.
The police officers let Dahmer take the boy into his apartment because it was a family matter. Even though one of the women tried to help because she had seen the boy’s injuries, the police didn’t do anything. Jeffrey gave Konerak a second shot of hydrochloric acid in the head. His head was put in the freezer to keep it from going bad while the rest of his body was cut up and burned.
During their ordeal, the family had run into the serial killer not just once, but twice. Less than two years before Konerak died, Jeffrey beat up one of Konerak’s brothers, Somsack Sinthasomphone.
