American professional goalkeeper Kinkaid plays for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League. On October 9, 2011, he played in his first game as a professional, a defeat to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

Keith Patrick Kinkaid, an American goaltender who plays for the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League (AHL) while on loan from the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League, was born on July 4, 1989. (NHL).

In 2007, Kinkaid earned his diploma from Sachem High School East.

Kinkaid spent the 2008–09 North American Hockey League season with the St. Louis Bandits. Kinkaid committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Union College in February 2009. After leading all NAHL goaltenders in wins, goals-against average, save %, and shutouts in April of that year, Kinkaid was voted MVP and Goaltender of the Year. For the Dave Tyler Junior Player of the Year Award, he was also a nominee.

From 2009 to 2011, Kinkaid competed for Union College in ECAC Hockey. Kinkaid was selected for the ECAC All-Rookie Team and Third Team during his first season.

Kinkaid was selected an AHCA East First-Team All-American following a stellar sophomore campaign in which he produced a 25-10-3 record and guided the Dutchmen to their first NCAA tournament berth. In addition, he received the Ken Dryden Award for best goaltender in the ECAC and was chosen to the All-ECAC Hockey First Team.

After his second season with Union, Kinkaid agreed to an entry level deal with the New Jersey Devils in April 2011.

For the 2011–12 campaign, professional Kinkaid was transferred to the Albany Devils, an American Hockey League affiliate of the Devils. On October 9, 2011, he made his professional debut against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, losing 4-2. On October 14, Kinkaid defeated the Connecticut Whale in a shootout, 3-2, to record his first career victory. In October of that year, Kinkaid was called up to the NHL to fill in for Johan Hedberg. Kinkaid, though, sat out the six games he was eligible for and was sent back to Albany without making his NHL debut. Kinkaid recorded his first career shutout against the Norfolk Admirals in his second game back in the AHL.

In the latter weeks of the 2012–13 campaign, Kinkaid was called up from Albany, and on March 5, 2013, at the Prudential Center, he made his NHL debut with New Jersey in a relief role against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

He was recalled in 2014 after spending the whole 2013–2014 season with the Albany Devils.

Kinkaid re-signed with the Devils on June 29, 2017.

Kinkaid finally took over as the starter for the 2017–18 season after Cory Schneider went down with a groin injury on January 23. He did well, with a 2.77 GAA and a.913 save percentage. In the Devils’ victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on April 5, 2018, Kinkaid made 30 saves to help the team secure its first playoff berth since 2012.

Kinkaid was transferred to the Columbus Blue Jackets on February 25, 2019, during the next 2018–19 season, in exchange for a choice in the 2022 fifth round of the draft.

Kinkaid, who was acquired as additional insurance for Sergei Bobrovsky and Joonas Korpisalo of the Blue Jackets, stayed on the roster as the third-choice goaltender and did not play for Columbus.

On July 1, 2019, Kinkaid, a free agent from the Blue Jackets, agreed to a one-year, $1.75 million deal with the Montreal Canadiens.

Kinkaid was placed on waivers on December 2 after appearing in six games for the Canadiens and recording a.875 save percentage. He was given to the Laval Rocket, the Canadiens’ AHL affiliate, after going unclaimed off waivers. Kinkaid played 13 games with the Rocket and only managed to pick up three victories in his first return to the AHL since the 2014–15 season. Kinkaid was reassigned on loan by the Canadiens to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL), the main affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes, on February 29, 2020.

After spending just one season with the Canadiens, Kinkaid left the team. On October 9, 2020, the New York Rangers signed him as a free agency to a two-year, $1.65 million deal.

On March 7, 2021, Kinkaid made his Rangers debut during the team’s 5-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

On July 13, 2022, Kinkaid, a free agent from the Rangers, agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with the Boston Bruins.

On November 2, 2022, Jeremy Swayman, one of Boston’s goaltender tandem, had a lower body injury, necessitating Kinkaid’s activation from the AHL’s Providence Bruins.
