Katherine Dee Strickland was born on December 14, 1975, in Blackshear, Georgia. Her mother, Susan, was a nurse, and her father, Dee Strickland, was a high school football coach, principal, and superintendent. Katherine Dee Strickland is their daughter. Her parents gave her the nickname “KaDee” when they combined the “K” in her first name with her father’s name (which is also her middle name) to create the new name. She grew up in Patterson, Georgia, which she referred to as a “one-stoplight town,” and she worked as a tobacco picker on a local farm for a total of eight years before she moved away.
