“House Of The Dragon”: Is Helaena Able To Dream About Dragons?

HBO’s ‘House of the Dragon’ is an adaptation of key chapters from George R. R. Martin’s novel ‘Fire & Blood,’ which was published in 2018, and chronicles the story of the bloody civil war that took place within the reigning Targaryen dynasty.

The show is a precursor to the HBO series ‘Game of Thrones,’ just as its source material is a precursor to George R. R. Martin’s ongoing magnum work, the book series ‘A Song of Ice and Fire.’ Therefore, they discuss lore, magical practices, and imaginative ideas among themselves. The concept of the dragon’s dreams is one example of this. This characteristic does not appear in anyone who does not have the blood of dragons; those with dragon blood are the only ones who can have it.

However, this is not always the case, and there are times when dreams do not include dragons. In episode 6, it is strongly suggested that Helaena Targaryen, who is portrayed by Phia Saban as an adult and by Evie Allen as a little girl, is a dragon dreamer. Helaena is the daughter of Viserys 1 and Alicent. What follows is our opinion regarding it. SPOILERS AHEAD

Is It True That Haelaena Dreams About Dragons?

Daenys Targaryen, the daughter of Aenar Targaryen, is widely regarded as the most famous dragon dreamer in the history of the world. According to the texts, when Daenys was still a young girl, she had a vision of the destruction of Valyria. Her father listened to the prophecy and in 114 BC relocated the family and all of their things from the Valyrian Freehold to Dragonstone. He did this because he took the warning seriously.

Since Daenys, both House Targaryen and its cadet branch, House Blackfyre, have been home to multiple individuals who have dreamt of dragons. It is revealed in the book ‘House of the Dragon’ that Aegon the Conqueror was a dragon dreamer himself. Aegon had a dream about a dragon that became the central prophecy of this universe, which is called A Song of Ice and Fire. It wasn’t just ambition that drove him to conquer Westeros; he also understood that a great darkness would come from the far North, and that it had the potential to wipe out all the men in the world.

Westeros needs to be united under a powerful Targaryen monarch in order for mankind to have a chance of surviving. Even Daenerys, played by Emilia Clarke, has a thing for dragons. Prior to the arrival of the three baby dragons, Daenerys has a dream about a black dragon. After the baby is born, she starts having dreams and visions about other things.

Mystery Of Helaena Targaryen

Regarding Helaena, the fact that she is a dragon dreamer is never mentioned in any of the books. On the other hand, the book “Fire and Blood” chronicles the testimonies of a number of mostly credible witnesses. Therefore, it’s quite probable that none of them had a solid understanding of who or what Helaena was. In episode 6, we find out that Helaena is fascinated with creepy crawlies and insects. Her younger brother Aemond enters the room just as she is demonstrating to her mother one of the millipedes that she has collected.

Aemond, in contrast to his siblings and his relatives who are Velaryons, does not yet have a connected relationship with a dragon. Therefore, he had gone into the Dragonpit all by himself in order to capture a dragon. This time, he is unsuccessful, and his mother reprimands him for it.

Helaena will say to herself, “final ring has no legs at all,” whenever both her mother and her brother are preoccupied with other things. Although this could be a straightforward observation about the millipede, taking into account the complex narrative that the creators of the series are attempting to convey, it is more than likely a reference to Bran Stark.

Story Of Helaena Targaryen In The Series

The following statement made by Helaena is an even more intriguing one. While her mother and brother are discussing the misadventure that Aemond had with the dragon, she makes the remark, “He’ll have to close an eye.” This is demonstrated in the seventh episode. Aemond lays claim to her dragon Vhagar on the evening of the funeral for Laena Velaryon. Vhagar is the largest of the current lot of dragons and the only one to have survived from the days of the conquest.

After a thrilling trip, he is met upon his arrival by Rhaenyra’s sons, Jacaerys and Lucerys, as well as Laena’s daughters, Baela and Rhaena. They accuse Aemond of snatching Vhagar, while he insults Rhaenyra’s boys by referring to them as b*****ds. As a result of the subsequent brawl, Aemond suffers the loss of one of his eyes. Later, while his mother is having a disagreement with Rhaenyra, he repeats what his sister had said before in an effort to calm his mother down. Even though he’s missing an eye, he now has a dragon to call his own.

It will be fascinating to observe how the authors proceed with the development of this element of the story. Helaena has a good chance of becoming a figure within the Greens that is analogous to Cassandra; she will be doomed to know what is about to happen, but she will never be believed. It is also possible that she has already seen what will happen in the future, and that the trauma she experienced is the source of her current conduct.

The fact that Viserys I is himself a dragon dreamer is perhaps the cruelest irony of all. If he pays any attention to his offspring other than Rhaenyra, he might learn a thing or two about them, including the fact that Helaena is a dragon dreamer and possibly a powerful one. Rhaenyra is the only one of his children that he pays any attention to. If he achieves that, he will be able to prevent the future from happening as it was predicted. Sadly, that is not the show that we are currently watching on television.
