He was born on August 20, 1994, in Mentor, Ohio. He went to Mentor High School, where he was on the football team called the Cardinals. He passed for 9,126 yards and 92 touchdowns in high school football, and he ran for 1,559 yards and 33 touchdowns. The Ohio Mr. Football Award was given to him in 2012.
