After being diagnosed with aphasia, a cognitive illness that impairs one’s capacity to communicate, Bruce Willis has decided to retire from acting. Willis’ family announced the news on social media on Wednesday.
To Bruce’s incredible fans, we wanted to communicate with you that our darling Bruce has been facing some health concerns and has been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impairing his cognitive ability, as a family,” the note reads in part. “As a result of this, and after much thought, Bruce has decided to retire from the profession that has meant so much to him.”
It is described as “an illness that causes you to lose your ability to communicate,” according to the Mayo Clinic. It has the potential to impair your capacity to communicate, write, and comprehend words in both spoken and written form.” Most typically, it is brought on by a stroke, but it can also occur as a result of other factors such as a head injury, a tumour, an infection, or a degenerative condition.
The actor’s family did not disclose what was causing the actor’s illness or what his prognosis was.
