Santa Fe, BONANZA CREEK RANCH: In a new FBI report about the death of Halyna Hutchins, it was said that the gun would only have fired a bullet if the trigger had been pulled.
Alec Baldwin said that playing with the hammer wasn’t enough to make the gun fire, according to the new report.
The report also says that the actor from “The Boss Baby” lied when he said he pulled the trigger on the gun, even though it was supposed to be full of fake bullets. In October 2021, Baldwin accidentally shot Hutchins on the set of his movie “Rust.” This is what killed Hutchins. At the same time, director Joel Souza was hurt at the Bonanza Creek Ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
In an earlier video, the Santa Fe County police showed how they met Baldwin for the first time and how he told the story. He has always said that he did not pull the gun’s trigger. Baldwin says that it was full of fake bullets. But a new report from the FBI says it couldn’t have been fired without the trigger being pulled. This means that he will still be charged with a crime for what happened. The Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the case will be turned over to the District Attorney.
Authorities said on Saturday, August 13, that they are waiting for the actor’s phone records and that the Attorney has been working closely with the police to understand the case. But detectives will look over the papers, and then a case file will be sent to the district attorney (DA) to see if any charges can be brought.
The FBI’s forensic report looked at every part of the fatal accident to get a fuller picture of what happened. In one part of the report, it was said that the revolver, a single-action 45 Colt caliber F.lli Pietta, can’t be fired unless the trigger is pulled. ABC News says that the police decided to do an accidental discharge test, but it’s not clear if they did this with the same gun or a copy of it. The report also says that when the gun works well, it won’t let out both the bullet and the primer at the same time.
Baldwin told ABC News that he had pulled the hammer back and posed with it for the camera while Halyna gave him tips on how to hold it. Later, during the investigation, he said that someone told him he was holding a “cold gun,” which means it was an empty gun. Baldwin said, “I did not pull the trigger.” The actor said he let it go, and it went off without him pulling the trigger. According to a recent FBI report, the action could make a gunshot sound without actually firing a bullet. The actor and others involved in the accident shooting could still be charged with a crime based on these findings.
In an interview with the Today show in October 2021, Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza said that criminal charges could not be ruled out against the people who did this. He said, “Right now, it’s too soon to rule anything out, and I don’t think anyone is safe from criminal charges. I’ve said this before, but I think there was a feeling of ease on set. There was some disorganization and some carelessness, but the district attorney will decide if that’s enough to be a crime.”
Baldwin told the Sheriffs that on the day of the shooting, a box of fake bullets that had been lost turned up out of nowhere. He said that when the crew went back to the box after the accident, they found that real rounds had been mixed in with the fake rounds. Baldwin was adamant that the armorer, Hannah Gutierrez, should be asked about the box by the sheriff’s investigators. Hannah, on the other hand, has told the public many times that she is not guilty.

But New Mexico’s Occupational Health and Safety Bureau told Rust Movie Productions that they had to pay $136,793 for safety problems that didn’t follow industry standards.
