Locations For Filming Of “Family Law” Series

The entire series ‘Family Law’ was shot in British Columbia, more specifically in the Greater Vancouver area. The principal photography for the first installment of the series began in July 2020 and was completed in September of the same year; however, the second installment was filmed from May to August 2021. In addition, the production of the third season began in May 2022 and continued until it was finished in the beginning of September 2022. Now, let’s take a more in-depth look at the several places that are featured in the CBS series!

Metro Vancouver, British Columbia

The majority of the important scenes in ‘Family Law’ were shot in the metropolitan area of Metro Vancouver, which has Vancouver as its primary city. The makers of the film decided to shoot on location in downtown Vancouver because the legal practice where the events of the movie take place is located there. This decision was made so that the images would appear more authentic. In addition, the house that Abigail resides in during the series is played by a private residence located in the Kerrisdale district.

False Creek is a short and narrow waterway that divides the Downtown and West End neighborhoods in the city, and it was here that a number of episodes from season 2 were filmed. When filming pivotal scenes, the cast and crew will even make use of locations such as the Vancouver Seawall, the Yaletown district, Jericho Beach Park, and the Ancora Waterfront Dining and Patio.

The production crew for the third season established up their base of operations in and around the Vancouver Art Gallery, where they filmed scenes at the 1931 Gallery Bistro as well as the north and south plazas. A sound stage in the city of Langley that was originally used as a store space is also utilized by the company. Last but not least, many of the scenes take place against the backdrop of well-known local landmarks such as Granville Island and Deep Cove.

Because of its varied topography, generous tax breaks for filmmakers, and ready supply of skilled performers and crew personnel, the Greater Vancouver area is a popular choice as a setting for film and television productions. The area has served as the setting for a number of films and television shows, including “Devil in Ohio,” “Lou,” “Quantum Leap,” and “The Imperfects,” among others.
