Early Career of Deandre Yedlin

Yedlin was raised in Seattle, Washington, where he was born.

At the age of four, Yedlin picked up the sport while seeing his uncle play. Yedlin attended O’Dea High School in Seattle and participated in the State Olympic Development Program (ODP) of Washington Youth Soccer from 2006 to 2009. Prior to joining U.S. Soccer Development Academy team Crossfire Premier, he also played youth soccer for Emerald City FC and Northwest Nationals. Yedlin remained in the DA, but for the 2010–11 campaign, he transferred to the Seattle Sounders FC youth academy.

Yedlin committed to playing college soccer at the University of Akron by signing a letter of intent on February 8, 2011.

Yedlin started 20 of the 23 games he played in for the Zips during his first season. On September 28, 2011, he scored his first collegiate goal in a 3-1 victory over Ohio State.
