A lawyer who has been to the European Court of Human Rights and the International Criminal Court has taken on Depp’s case.
In the UK, Johnny Depp lost the first round of his defamation lawsuit. In Fairfax County, Virginia, he is hoping for a better outcome from his lawsuit. In 2022, the case will start on April 11, and it will last for about six weeks. Depp is suing his ex-wife Amber Heard for about $50 million.
The huge case comes almost seven years after Depp and Heard broke up. Clearly, they aren’t done yet. To keep his career going, Depp needs to win this case against The Sun. After the libel case in the UK, he was shunned by many people because of it. It was the “wife beater” label that led to Depp being kicked out of “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore,” and he also lost all of his other projects. In the defamation case, Depp has spent all of his money. If he doesn’t change the situation quickly, he will lose a lot of money. Benjamin Chew: Who Is He?
Depp’s lawyer has the same name as another well-known lawyer who helped the founding fathers of the United States with their legal problems during the creation of the constitution. This one, too, has a long history. Chew is a partner at Brown Rudnick in Washington, DC. He has been a lawyer for about 30 years. Chew is a graduate of Princeton University. After that, he went on to study law at the University of Virginia School of Law, where he graduated in 1988.
With his work in the fields of law and arbitration, he has made a name for himself. The Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers can practice law in Virginia, the District of Columbia, and even the European country of Kosovo. Chew has worked for governments in Dubai, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Ecuador, and he has a lot of international experience. A European Court of Human Rights case also went his way, as well as one against Ghana at the International Criminal Court. He won both of these cases.
The Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board and other big companies from around the world have worked with Chew when he’s been back in the United States. When Cher sued her old financial advisor, he also helped her get a settlement. It’s not the first time Chew has filed a defamation case against Depp. He helped Depp sue The Management Company for fraud in 2017. In 2018, the two sides are said to have reached a settlement in that case. It’s not likely that Depp’s lawsuit against Heard will end the same way.
Depp will also be hoping that the case doesn’t go the same way as the one in the UK, even though he’s taking the same steps. When Chew filed the case in Virginia, he said he did so because the state’s anti-SLAPP law isn’t as broad as the one in California, where both Heard and Depp live.
