The young vocalist, who is only 18 years old, shared her account of how she and her brother were able to survive the shooting at Oxford High School in 2017 with the crowd and viewers back at home, which caused a surge of emotions to run through both groups.
The American Talent Competition participant impressed the judges Sofia Vergara, Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, and Heidi Klum with her wide vocal range and her musical ability. As Ava made her first appearance on the American Talent Show stage, the audience greeted her with enthusiastic applause. She revealed that her birth name is Ava Swieczkowski, but she has always gone by the surname ‘Swiss’ due to the fact that it is more trendy, shorter, and simpler to articulate. She carried a powerful survival tale, which she expressed during her audition, and it was hidden behind the wonderful attitude that she presented.
The native of Oxford, Michigan told her brother about how she was able to survive the shooting that took place at Oxford High School. She revealed the traumatic event that occurred when she was performing on stage while discussing the meaning behind her choice of music, which was Remember by Lauren Daigle.
Four students were killed and seven others, including a teacher, were injured as a result of a mass shooting that took place on November 30th, 2021 at Oxford High School in Michigan. Ethan Crumbley, a sophomore who is only 15 years old, was taken into custody by the authorities and charged with 24 offences, including terrorism and murder.
The contender is currently a senior at Oxford High School; nevertheless, she and her brother were unable to go to class for a considerable amount of time as they fought to come to terms with what had happened. Ava admitted that it was challenging, but now that all of her siblings have been attending school for more over two months, “things have been better.” Ava said this.
Following her heartfelt performance, the judges could only come up with one word to describe her: “wonderful.” Howie Mandel then picked up where he left off and remarked that it was difficult to show up after experiencing a horrible event, but that she was able to “break through that and shine” as an encouragement to others. The judges afterwards praised her for the resilience and bravery she displayed in the face of adversity.
