Anthony Severs: Man, 76, DENIED entry into bar for being TOO OLD says ‘its discrimination’

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND: It’s not unusual to be turned away from a pub for being too young, but it was strange for a man to be turned away for being “too old.” Anthony Severs went to the Irish pub McCooley’s in Liverpool, England, on July 25 around 10 p.m. to get out of the rain and have a drink.

Severs, who was 76 at the time, was “shell-shocked” when the bouncer told him he was “too old” to get in. He says he has complained since then, but the pub hasn’t yet said sorry, and he feels “discriminated against” because of his age.

The retired shipbuilder said the following about the strange situation: “It was raining when I left The Grapes, and I was soaked. I don’t live too far from town, so when the Arriva bus company went on strike, I walked home. But since it was raining, I decided to go into McCooley’s to dry off and get something to drink.”

“When I got to the top of the stairs, a bouncer told me I couldn’t go in. She told me I was too old when I asked why “Severs said it. “I told him, “That’s unfair.” Then she didn’t say anything. I just left because I was so shocked.”

Anthony, who has a daughter and many grandchildren, said, “How would it make you feel? It didn’t hit me until I walked away. I thought, “Wait, aren’t they too old?” I was shocked. I’ve been drinking around town for 60 years or so, and nothing like this has ever happened to me before.”

Severs said, “Telling someone they’re too old might make them laugh, but it’s not right.” The grandfather didn’t understand what was going on, so he talked to his daughter about it. He said that he drinks on Mathew Street because he often sees people he knows there. She suggested that he tell McCooley’s what was going on. But Severs says that after he did that, he was told to get in touch with the security company that the bar hires.

Severs said, “When I got my thoughts together, I went to McCooley’s and they said it wasn’t their fault; it was the security company’s.” “I told her I wanted a personal apology because I was left out.”

McCooley’s has since released the following statement to LADbible in response to the event: “As a bar and restaurant venue that specializes in live music and sporting events, we pride ourselves on creating a fun, vibrant, and all-inclusive environment at McCooley’s. We are really sad to hear that Mr. Severs was left feeling upset, and we thank him for bringing this situation to our attention.”

“Mr. Severs wasn’t let in after he left the Grapes. His age didn’t matter, and there may have been some confusion on the night. Most of our customers are older, especially during the week. He can come back whenever he wants, “the speaker kept talking. “The outside security person from whom he wanted a personal apology no longer works for the security company we use, but the head of the security company that hired her has apologized to him in person.”

“We’ve been told that this happened at their offices in the city center last week. If Mr. Severs wants to come back, we will definitely take care of him. He had refused to give his information to the security company when he met them, so we as a venue couldn’t get in touch with him “the end of the statement. “The article in the Liverpool Echo was the first time any of McCooley’s managers heard about the first complaint.”
