In April 2013, a jury found 43-year-old Annamaria guilty of two charges of attempted murder and first-degree murder. They also learned that she had committed the extraordinary act of killing someone while waiting, and they confirmed the validity of the distinct allegations relating to the use of a firearm inflicting serious harm and death.

Alfonso took the gun from his mother as she attempted to kill herself in the head. However, the bullet just missed her neck. Alfonso then grabbed the weapon and ran outside. Annamaria was standing still and gazing off in the distance when the police found her with Antonio. When questioned by a deputy sheriff, she confessed to shooting Antonio.

Annamaria is still being held at the California Institution for Women in Chino, Riverside County, according to records. She will be eligible for parole in 2036. She admitted that her acts were wrong but that she was driven insane by her medical issues to do such a terrible crime.
The defense claimed that Annamaria had had delirium, psychosis, and sadness as a result of her cancer treatment during her 2013 trial. Annamaria was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010, which necessitated a double mastectomy. As part of her treatment, she was getting chemotherapy and radiation.
She further used medications to aid with her sleep. Annamaria told the police that her recent stress was a result of their unsuccessful business. She discovered she had been thinking about suicide for a few weeks and had planned to kill her family first.
