For the first time in 25 years, American actor Johnny Depp will take on the role of director as he develops a feature film about Amedeo Modigliani.
The 59-year-old actress will also co-produce the movie, which is based on the life of the poor artist Modigliani, who died in the 1920s, along with Al Pacino and Barry Navidi, according to Deadline.
Based on Dennis McIntyre’s drama that debuted in 1979, Modigliani will describe the painter’s life in Paris in 1916. The movie will be Johnny Depp’s second endeavor as a filmmaker. The Brave, a 1997 movie starring Marlon Brando, was his debut effort as a director.

Italian native Amedeo Modigliani was born in Livorno on July 12, 1884. His paintings and sculptures are characterized by elongated forms, asymmetrical arrangements, and the use of straightforward lines.
Jewish parents raised Modigliani, who moved to Paris in 1906. He became a part of the artistic scene there and met various artists there, including Pablo Picasso and Constantin Brancusi, whose work influenced the restrained style of his compositions. While studying art in Florence and Venice, the artist greatly appreciated the traditional Italian Renaissance paintings.
At the Salon d’Automne in 1912, he displayed eight stone heads with simple and elongated features that were inspired by African sculptures.

Amedeo, a self-taught painter, depicted unidentified servants, models, and residents of his neighborhood in addition to his acquaintances and well-known figures from the Parisian creative scene. He started painting a series of around 30 large female nudes in 1917. With their warm, vibrant colors and sensual, rounded figures, these paintings are among his best.
In terms of his private life, he began living with Jeanne Hébuterne in 1917. The couple and their daughter, who was born in November 1918, used to live on the Côte d’Azur. Pleurisy and typhus were among the illnesses the artist battled throughout his life, and these eventually claimed his life in January 1920. Hébuterne committed suicide by jumping out of a window two days later, along with their unborn child.
