The late jockey Lester Piggott’s oldest daughter is Maureen Haggas. She is the spouse of Newmarket trainer and Derby champion William Haggas.
In 1960, Lester married Susan Armstrong, the mother of Maureen. Tracy, Maureen’s younger sister who works for RTE in Ireland, and Jamie, their stepbrother, complete the family. Jamie was born while Lester was in a relationship with his helper, Anna Ludlow.
Lester, Maureen’s father, had a nearly 48-year career as the Queen’s favoured jockey. He started horse racing when he was just 12 years old and won his first race that year.

Lester passed away in a hospital in Switzerland, and William Haggas, his son-in-law, announced his passing. When he was admitted to the hospital, Maureen and William were taking care of him.
Lester’s spouse, William, said little about his health but revealed that he was battling the illness and passed away.
Maureen shattered two bones in her neck after falling on the gallops after her horse was startled by a dog, which followed the death of her father for the Haggas family.

William Haggas, a trainer at Newmarket, was born on August 23, 1960. He is 61 years old and was born in Skipton, England. Although Maureen, his wife, has not provided a birth date, it appears that she is also in her late 50s.
It doesn’t seem like there is much of an age difference between the couple because they got married in 1989. Sam and Mary-Anne are William and Maureen’s two children. Sam works as a bloodstock agent and is active in racing like his father.

Haggas won the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Australia’s Randwick racetrack in 2020 and 2021, making him one of Her Majesty the Queen’s most trustworthy jockeys. His hometown is Skiptop, a community outside of the Yorkshire Dales.
Rich textile manufacturer and contributor to the development of the legendary Harris Tweed was Haggas’ father, Brian. William excelled academically while attending the renowned Harrow public school.

Family members were horrified by his untimely passing, especially Maureen, who was caring for him. On the other hand, Maureen just fractured two vertebrae in her neck and is currently wearing a collar to aid in her recovery.
